A weirdo is considered to be a person which others disapprove of, because they behave in an unusual way, making it hard for other people to understand or accept them. Basically, every interesting person who has ever walked this earth, is considered a weirdo by, let’s say…normal people!
Meet Laura and Phil, who proudly call themselves weirdos. Weird love. These two words were splashed in neon at their destination wedding in Algarve, it was their wedding theme.
They are a cool couple, comfortable in their skin. This is the thing about weirdos, they are who they are, acknowledge it, embrace it, and love it. This is Laura and Phil and their weird love.
In Laura’s words: “Although we had a bunch of mutual friends, it took a late night, a stiff drink and Instagram for Phil to make a move.” After “the move” things evolved quite fast, and soon Laura and Phil moved in together, joining their tchotchkes, as people do. Three years after, they choose a destination wedding in Algarve to consummate the union of two weirdo souls in a weird love wedding!

This destination wedding in Algarve had a few firsts for Happy Together Films. Laura and Phil live in Brooklyn, New York City. They decided for us, without actually meeting us face to face. This is something that we never do. We are very keen on meeting the couple a few times before the date of the wedding. By chance, we were in Brooklyn, but unable to meet them. These two work a lot and it was impossible for them to fit us in their busy schedule. The reason we took a chance, was that we were referred to them by a wedding planner team that we love and trust. They could not be deterred, they saw our portfolio and decided that Happy Together Films was a perfect fit to do their wedding videography. We guess a weirdo can spot another weirdo! We decided to do it and we are very glad we did. Laura and Phil are very cool and easy going. Their weird love is funny and heartwarming.
Another first for us, that really kept us on our toes, is that both Laura and Phil work in the field. Laura is a video editor and Phil is a director and producer. Once in Lisbon, before the wedding, we finally met each other. They are pros in what they do! We left feeling that we needed to rock this one, we didn’t want to disappoint them. We felt very privileged that Laura and Phil chose us, and kind of scared that we wouldn’t live up to their expectations. They are such warm people, they talked about their jobs very unpretentiously. So we decided to do, what we always do, work hard and be ourselves. Also for this one, we could let our inner weird run wild!

On a hot October day, we headed to Faro, to shoot this special destination wedding in Algarve.
Algarve is best known for its sunny beaches, who attract lots of travelers in search of clean white sand and warm waters. In reality, if you look deeper, there is a lot more to the region than just its beautiful beaches.

For this destination wedding in Algarve, the venue chosen was the Pousada do Palácio de Estói. We are talking about a palace here! Building started in 1840 and was completed in 1909 by the viscount of Estói. Today it is a hotel. This incredible property and its surrounding gardens were an amazing backdrop for Laura and Phil’s weird love wedding. It gave an antique atmosphere to the ceremony. There’s this elegant simplicity floating in the air. Laura’s dress fit in perfectly with this vintage sparkle feel. Stunning! We absolutely were in awe of the bridesmaids look! Looking so fresh and modern, all in white (very weird!) with that splash of green in those simple leaf bouquets! Everything was Laura and Phil, easy, chilled and most of all, just plain real!

Seeing Phil take in a deep breath as he looks to his bride walking towards him was precious. Laura with a tender and contagious smile throughout. Vows were exchanged, tears and laughter, and, by the end of the ceremony it looked like they were made for that moment.
So much happiness was shared with everyone present.
We have to tell you Laura and Phil have quite a crew! Their friends are funny and witty and they can dance the night away! Laura and Phil definitely know how to throw a party!

This weird love was one we adored to witness. A destination wedding in Algarve we loved to be a part of. We cannot understate how privileged we felt to be chosen to film this one.
Laura and Phil are two awesome human beings, who love each other very much. Very soon in their relationship they realized that it was meant to be. The smile on their faces tell the story, all you have to do is look!

Um esquisito (weird) é uma pessoa que outros tendem a desaprovar, porque se comportam de uma maneira incomum, tornando difícil para outras pessoas entendê-los ou aceitá-los. Basicamente, todas as pessoas interessantes que existem neste planeta, são consideradas esquisitas por, digamos…Pessoas normais!
Apresentamos a Laura e o Phil, que orgulhosamente se intitulam como esquisitos (weirdos). Weird love (amor esquisito). Estas duas palavras brilharam em néon no destination wedding no Algarve, aliás, foi o tema do casamento da Laura e do Phil.

Este é um casal extremamente cool, confortável na sua pele. Por norma é assim que são os tais weirdos. Aceitam-se como são! Esta é a história da Laura e do Phil e do seu weird love.
Diz a Laura: “Embora tivéssemos um monte de amigos em comum, bastou uma noite, uma bebida forte e o Instagram para o Phil se decidir a avançar.” Depois deste “avanço”, as coisas evoluíram rapidamente. Decidiram juntar os trapos, como as pessoas fazem. Três anos depois de se terem escolhido um ao outro, vieram até Portugal para consumar o seu weird love num destination wedding no Algarve.

Este destination wedding no Algarve, foi marcado por algumas estreias para nós, Happy Together films.
A Laura e o Phil moram em Brooklyn, Nova York. Eles decidiram contratar-nos sem se encontrarem connosco. Isto é algo que nunca fazemos. Fazemos questão de nos encontrar com o casal antes da tomada de decisão final. Por acaso, até estivemos em Brooklyn, mas o calendário apertado da Laura e do Phil, impossibilitou esse encontro. De qualquer forma eles já tinham tomado a decisão, viram o nosso portfolio e acharam que a Happy Together Films era a escolha ideal para fazer a videografia do seu weird love. Um weirdo reconhece sempre outro weirdo! Como fomos recomendados através de uma equipa de wedding planners que adoramos e confiamos, decidimos arriscar! Em boa hora o fizemos. A Laura e o Phil são um casal maravilhoso, fácil e descomplicado. O seu weird love é divertido e apaixonante.

Outra estreia para nós, que nos deixou em sentido, é que a Laura e o Phil trabalham na área do áudiovisual, ou melhor, são mestres! A Laura é editora de vídeo e o Phil é realizador e produtor.
Uma vez em Lisboa, antes do casamento, finalmente conhecemo-nos. Sentimo-nos privilegiados pela Laura e o Phil nos terem escolhido e ficamos algo apreensivos, de não irmos de encontro às expectativas deles. No final do encontro, tudo isto estava ultrapassado. São pessoas extremamente calorosas, falaram dos seus trabalhos de forma muito despretensiosa.
Atirámo-nos de cabeça! Iríamos fazer o que sempre fazemos. Trabalhar bem e ser Happy Together Films. Além disso, para este destination wedding poderíamos deixar o nosso weird interior vir a tona!

Num dia quente de Outubro, lá fomos para Faro para filmar um destination wedding no Algarve.
O Algarve é conhecido pelas suas praias ensolaradas, que atraem muitos turistas à procura de areias brancas e águas mornas. O Algarve é muito mais que um destino balnear. É uma zona do país muito igual a si própria, com gentes muito orgulhosas e paisagens de cortar a respiração!

Para este destination wedding no Algarve, o local escolhido foi a Pousada do Palácio de Estói. Estamos a falar de um palácio! A construção desta propriedade foi iniciada em 1840 e concluída em 1909 pelo visconde de Estói. Hoje é um hotel. Este incrível palácio e os seus jardins circundantes foram o cenário ideal para este casamento weird love da Laura e do Phil. Conferiu à cerimónia uma atmosfera histórica. Uma certa simplicidade elegante pairava no ar.
O vestido da Laura encaixava perfeitamente com esta sensação de brilho vintage, fabuloso! Adorámos as damas de honor! Tão fresco e moderno, as três todas de branco (muito weird!), apenas aquele toque de verde nos bouquets! Muito original! Tudo era a cara da Laura e do Phil, acessível, cool, e,principalmente, real!

Ver o Phil a respirar fundo enquanto olha para a sua Laura a dirigir-se a ele, é o que basta para derreter qualquer coração! A Laura com um sorriso terno e contagiante, que insistia em persistir! Votos foram trocados, lágrimas e sorrisos. Aquele momento é deles, foram feitos para o viver, juntos. Era felicidade por todo o lado, família e amigos a partilhar este weird love.
Algo que não passou despercebido é que a Laura e o Phil, têm um grupo de amigos maravilhosos! São divertidos, bem-dispostos, espirituosos, e arrasam na pista de dança! A Laura e o Phil, sem dúvida, sabem como dar uma festa, assim, daquelas épicas!

Este weird love, foi magnífico de testemunhar. Adorámos fazer parte deste destination wedding no Algarve. Não conseguimos expressar o quão privilegiados nos sentimos por termos sido a escolha da Laura e do Phil. São dois seres humanos incríveis, que se amam muito. Muito cedo no seu relacionamento se aperceberam que foram feitos um para o outro.
Os sorrisos nos seus rostos contam a história, tudo o que precisas de fazer é ver o filme!
